Curling Iron & Hair Dryer Storage Solution

Monday, February 18, 2013

I just completed week one of the
Feeling a bit discouraged, I decided it was time for a smaller task

I hate tangled cords, period! But in the morning, when I'm already running behind, it drives be bonkers! I did some online searches and the only storage solution for curling/straightening irons, hair brushes and hair dryers I could find was at the container store.

The reviews were great and I loved that you could put the items inside the storage while still warm; however, I knew this wouldn't work for me. Why? Well, first, I have more hair supplies than there are compartments in this product. Also, I wanted something that would house my brushes and combs. Lastly, some reviewers had mentioned their hair dryer did not fit.
So I went in search of something that suits my needs a bit better. I found it at TJ Maxx, in none other than their office section.
I loved that it also has a lazy susan attached

It has room for all my hair electronics plus my brushes and combs too!

The cords just fall right to the bottom and come out just as easily.

I now have a home for all my hair electronics and IT SPINS too!

Bet you think I forgot my hair dyer, huh? Nope! My hair dryer is large and I knew I would have to split the storage up somehow, so I found myself once again in the office isle at TJ.

Lookie what I came up with...and the best of all, it works like a charm!

Yes, that's what you think it is...

Everything fits perfectly. I will have to say, this one is on the wider side and that is why it works so well. Depending on the size of your hair dryer, you would need to adjust accordingly.

This just makes me all kinds of HAPPY!

Here's to a more organized home in 2013!

Happy decluttering!

40 bags 40 days

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

I'm feeling inspired once again to declutter. Yea-yea, I know what you're thinking;
but I'm serious this time, REALLY, I am!

Let me explain something before we go any further...
I come from a family who keeps everything! Why?
BECAUSE YOU MIGHT NEED IT SOMEDAY!
Honestly, it's like a genetic thing that you need therapy and treatment to overcome.

Let's get to it!

Allow me to introduce you to my nemesis...
otherwise known as the basement storage area, AKA: Totes-R-us!

Out of sight, out of mind! Yea, right! It's never out of my mind and should anyone but immediate family ever venture down there, I'd be absolutely mortified!

Let's evaluate my situation, shall we?
Basically, when I don't know what to do with something, I buy another tote and fill it up.

Can't get more basic than that.

I seriously NEED HELP! I've joined up with a fantabulous group of ladies over at
White House Black Shutters for the annual 40 Bags 40 Days Project.

Ooh, I am so hoping these ladies can keep me on track!

Want to join me?

Happy cleaning!

run forest run!

Monday, December 3, 2012

My daughter and I ran in the Indianapolis Color Run this year

This is certainly the most fun run/walk I've ever done.

Everyone dresses up in their super fab colorful get-ups
only to be doused in lots of C-O-L-O-R!

Oh and the music...they play some great jams too!

This race had it all, from young to old and everything in between.
Not an athlete? Doesn't matter, you can do this!

It's a perfect starter 5k for the family or someone looking to
get in shape without the competition and seriousness.

You just can't help but smile along with all the others
around you during this race!

Add this one to the bucket list! You won't be sorry!

Get your race on!

you are my sunshine

yellow decor
I love the saying, "You are my sunshine" it reminds me of my daughter.
It was time for an update to her room
I found this rug at Marshall's for inspiration
I had been on the hunt for a
"you are my sunshine" focal point
for the room but just couldn't find what I wanted.

Some were too small, others too big and heavy,
yes, it was a Goldilocks moment
The lightweight canvas from Michaels was just right.

I matched my paint colors with the rug

Searched for just the right vinyl stickers that
could easily be painted over and peel off as well.
I couldn't find what I wanted for the "S" so I used
a larger wooden letter and some double sided tape
to keep it in place while painting.
Next came letter placement.
DIY you are my sunshine
I used a dry brush method with the paints, layering one over the other
to achieve the look I was going for (what that was, I really didn't know at the time).
Once dry, I peeled the letters off and rubbed a fine grade
sandpaper over the canvas to rough it up a bit.
And there you have it...the focal point of the room
All I did was lean it on the shelf and added a few accessories
It added just a touch a sunshine (in color and words) to the room!
I think we're both pleased with the results!
Go create something today, it will make your heart happy!
